Congratulations to....

The 4th AR Goal period has ended and student participation for this goal period was higher than any other goal period!  Total, there were 28 students that met their AR Goal for the 4th 9 weeks.  Congratulations to all 28 students for their hard work.
Two students, Keylee and Darian, also were the only two students at CCMS to meet the requirements to be a Bluegrass Reader.  To be a Bluegrass Reader, students had to read 7 of the 10 award winning Bluegrass Books and complete the AR test.  Congrats to Keylee and Darian for their hard work!

Great job students!  The new Bluegrass Books will be at the CCMS Library at the start of the next school year.  For the 2012-2013 school year students will be required to read all 10 books to recieve to be rewarded.

Look for pictures from the AR and Bluegrass reward party soon!  Until next time....Happy Reading!!!

Return or Pay Up

The school year is quickly coming to an end.  If you still have library books out you need to return those as soon as possible.  If a book is checked out in your name and it is not returned, you will have to pay for the lost book before you will recieve your final grade card. So look in your lockers, under your bed, in your desk, in the gym, the cafeteria, and even on the library shelves to locate any book that you may have misplaced.  And remember, just because you are going to be on summer break does not mean you should take a break from reading.  Visit the public library and pick out a good book to read during the summer, or 2 or 3.  Just remember to read.  Until next time....Happy Reading!!!

Student Book Review

During literacy month students have the opportunity to submit book reviews to the library blog. The following blog is by 8th grader Keilah.

Flowers for Algernon Book Review
By
Keilah

Want a suspenseful sci-fi but don’t know where to look? Flowers for Algernon may be what you’ve been waiting for. Written by Daniel Keys, this fiction story describes one man’s (Charlie Gordon) long and treacherous journey to a genius I.Q. Charlie has always been mentally handicapped and has an IQ of about 60. He had a difficult childhood; parents unsure of what to do with him, and a sister who practically disowns him. When Charlie is in his 30’s he is recruited for an experiment. Scientists tell him that he has been chosen to experience an intelligence increase that might possibly make him a genius. The experiment had been tried on a mouse in the lab named Algernon. Charlie is told to keep progress report updates of how much he has learned. As Charlie becomes smarter he begins to notice women in a whole different light and falls in love with a teacher and scientist, Alice Kinnian. Alice isn’t ready for a relationship and this troubles Charlie. He continues to read, learn other languages, test Algernon, and write progress reports. In the midst of all this Charlie learns something that could change his life forever. Will he be able to keep his intelligence, or will it start to slip away day by day?
Because of the many sexual references and language, I would recommend this book to those 15 and up.

Literacy Week at CCMS

March 5-9th is literacy week at CCMS. There are several extra activities planned for each day to promote literacy among students at CCMS. On Monday we will have a visitor from the Hot Rod's mascot to talk about free baseball tickets. On Tuesday students and teachers will participate in D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read). On Wednesday special guest Ms. Liza Turner, and the gang from the public library, will visit students at CCMS and talk about some new programs at the local library. Thursday there will be a school wide assembly with an Applachain Story Teller. Finally, Friday will be book give away day. Several books have been donated to Cumberland County students and every student will leave with free books. Look for more information concerning literacy week and literacy month in the hall ways at CCMS.

Don't forget the student teacher read off. The teachers are busy reading and taking AR test are you? Until next time... Happy Reading!

Student Teacher Read Off

The library theme for the month of March is "TEACHER STUDENT READ OFF". All 3 grade levels are in the process of forming reading teams. If you are a 6th grader and would like to sign up see Ms. Brittany, 7th graders see Ms. Amber, and 8th graders can sign up with Ms. Dillard. The teachers are also currently forming a reading team. The goal is for your team to accumulate the most AR points during the month of March. And yes...Teachers will also have to take the AR test and accumulate points. There is a prize! The winning team will recieve a pizza party at the end of March. And of course, the teachers can also recieve the pizza party if they read and accumulate the most AR Points. You must sign up with the designated teacher, read, and complete AR test to be eligible for the pizza party!

Common sense says that either of the student teams could easily beat the teacher team. There are only 15-20 teachers and there are 215 students. It would be a shame for the teachers to win. So students...don't be put to shame and let the teachers beat you! Get started reading now and claim the prize for your reading team. Until next time...Happy Reading!
